A mouth gag is a surgical instrument used to keep the animal’s mouth open while operating in the dental cavity or to push the mouth open when it cannot open normally due to the forward displacement of the intra-articular cartilage pad of the jaw joint. Mouth gags are surgical instruments mounted between the upper and lower jaws to keep the mouth from shutting during the operation of the mouth or throat.
